Is Religion Dangerous?

Is the Bible Immoral?
Does God Exist, and is He Worth Following?
And more …
Over the last two decades, academic studies have been published claiming that the more highly educated an individual is, the less likely they are to believe in God. While the statistics supporting these studies are more complex than headlines suggest, the assertion that belief in God requires leaving one’s brain at the door has become pervasive across culture today.
This widespread assumption is fueled by well-respected thinkers such as Professor Stephen Hawking, who once commented that heaven “is a fairy story for those afraid of the dark.” Commenting on Hawking’s statement, Professor John Lennox countered that “atheism is a fairytale for people afraid of the light.”
What are we to make of such contrary responses from two highly educated, intelligent thinkers? Can there be good reason for what Christians believe, or is Hawking right that belief in God stems from child-like naiveté, or even fear? And if there is good reason, how do we communicate it in a compelling way? In a world where disagreement is increasingly expressed with hostility, how can people who see the world so differently engage respectfully with one another, let alone understand one another?
Whether you’re a questioning skeptic or an interested Christian, join Ravi Zacharias, Abdu Murray, Vince Vitale, and other members of RZIM’s global speaking team as we consider the evidence for the Christian God, and how Christians can lovingly respond to those who don’t believe in him.
Understanding and Answering Atheism is a conference designed for students, families, small groups, churches, and any one interested in the rising challenge of atheism to the Christian worldview.
